Cooler Capacity: Real Quarts and Cans with Ice

The number on a cooler is rarely what fits with ice. This chart uses each maker's inside dimensions and counts cans with ice.

How we calculate

  1. Real interior volume = inside length ร— width ร— height รท 57.75 cubic inches per quart, from the maker's published interior dimensions. Where none are published we use the rated quarts.
  2. Cans with ice at 2:1 = interior quarts รท (3 ร— 0.375 qt of drink per 12-oz can). The cans sit in the ice, so we count drink volume, not can volume. This matches YETI's own 2:1 figures (Tundra 35: 21 cans, Tundra 75: 57 cans).
  3. Maker can claims are usually cans only, without ice, so they look about twice as large.

Lifetime publishes tapered interior ranges; we use the top dimensions, so their real volume is a little lower. Data as of Oct 2026. Full list of sources: How we calculate.
