Graduation Party Food Calculator (Open House)
Prices checked Oct 2026, average US grocery prices. Portions follow common catering rules of thumb; safe temperatures follow USDA. How we calculate
Graduation open houses are different from a sit-down party: guests drop in for about an hour, many come from another party, and the crowd peaks in the middle. This calculator plans for the people who actually come and spreads the food across the afternoon so nothing sits out too long.
Graduation Party Food by Invitation Count
Assumes 70% of invitations attend, a full meal of pulled pork sliders and 2.2 drinks per guest. Use the calculator for other menus.

Refill Schedule
Put out only part of the food at the start and refill from a warm oven or cooler. For a 3-hour open house, plan about 30% of the food for the first hour, 45% for the busy middle hour and 25% for the last. Food on the table should be swapped, not topped up, every 2 hours, or every hour above 90°F (USDA).
